Mohawk leads innovation in sustainable flooring with SmartStrand with DuPont™ Sorona® polymer, made in part with naturally occurring sugars from widely available, renewable crops, rather than petrochemicals, as in the case of nylon.
This marks the first time that a luxuriously soft carpet offers high levels of durability and stain protection, while also making less of an environmental impact.
The production of Sorona® polymer requires 30 percent less energy than the production of an equal amount of nylon.
Greenhouse gas emissions from the production of Sorona® are 63 percent lower than nylon manufacturing.
SmartStrand is Easy-care
SmartStrand offers permanent stain resistance that's actually built into the carpet fibres; It won't wash off with routine cleaning or wear off the way stain treatments applied as a coating or a spray can.
This engineered-in stain resistance allows everyday stains, like tea or coffee, or even tough stains such as shoe polish and red wine, to be removed simply with warm water and a mild detergent. SmartStrand will even resist being discoloured by bleach.
SmartStrand has a limited lifetime stain resistance warranty, the first of its kind in the industry.
SmartStrand is Durable
Because of their unique structure, SmartStrand fibres bend easily and rebound quickly, making them exceptionally durable and hardwearing enough to take even the highest levels of foot traffic.
The fibre's unique properties allow your carpet to resist the crushing and matting that can occur with other carpets.
SmartStrand also has excellent colourfastness and resists fading from exposure to sunlight or UV light.
SmartStrand is Soft
SmartStrand's unique polymer doesn't sacrifice comfort. Chemical treatments to protect against spots and stains can make many carpets feel coarse or rough, but SmartStrand's built-in stain protection means its fibres are gentle, soft and ultra-comfortable.
